Ursula Biemann: FOREST LAW

The video essay “Forest Law” (2014) by Ursula Biemann and her research partner Paulo Tavares focuses on the Amazon region, which is heavily affected by oil exploration, and the local indigenous peoples who are the first to be affected by the environmental damage that occurs. The reappraisal of the disastrous exploitation is countered by a worldview that refers to Michel Serres’ “nature contract”, in which all actors of the earth (i.e. plants, animals and humans) are accepted as equals.
