In Switzerland, heights are given in meters, measured over 100 years ago from the Mediterranean near Marseille. The Alps are currently rising by 1 to 2 milimetres per year due to plate tectonics. However, the climate emergency is already causing sea levels to rise by 3 to 4 milimetres per year, and up to three meters are predicted in the coming centuries. As the sea level rises, the previous altitude data will fall in relative terms. Hemauer/Keller have developed a device to observe these changes in altitude and make them visible at 5 locations in the Safiental. (JH)
